THE 10TH INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL “IBIZAGRAFIC ’82”

IBIZAGRAFIC is an international exhibition of the graphic arts of printmaking, encompassing its various processes (lithography, screenprinting, engraving, etching, linocut, etc.), in which the impression is produced manually, using any kind of mixed or single technique, as well as new experimental approaches.

This year marks the tenth Biennial and the sixth edition of “IBIZAGRAFIC” since it specialised in the printmaking arts in 1972. Seven hundred works have been received from 350 artists from the following countries: German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Cuba, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, the Netherlands, India, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, U.S.A., Venezuela and Yugoslavia.

The Selection Committee has chosen 243 works, representing all techniques and subject matter. It has been necessary to use all the galleries of the Museum of Contemporary Art to accommodate them, and periods of rotation have had to be established in the Upper Gallery for Individual Exhibitions in order to show selected works that could not initially be exhibited. This demonstrates the commitment and determination of the organisers of “IBIZAGRAFIC ’82” to do justice to the selected participants, despite obvious material limitations.

From the total number of selected works, the Biennial Jury chose eight prizes of equal standing, which are listed at the end of the catalogue together with the composition of the Jury.

Finally, acknowledgement should be given to the entire team of collaborators who worked on the organisation and installation of the 10th Biennial; thanks to their enthusiasm and selfless effort, “IBIZAGRAFIC ’82” was able to open its doors on time and with distinction.
