Silverlea School Assn. Auxiliary

The annual general meeting of the Broken Hill Sub-Normal Children’s Welfare Association Ladies’ Auxiliary was held at the “Silver Lea” school on July 9. It was reported that the past year had been successful for the energetic committee, resulting in a donation of £1,000 to “Silver Lea” School. The money was raised from a cabaret, mannequin parades, street stall, sale of Christmas cards, and various other activities.

Mrs R. Smithersam was elected President for the ensuing year. Other office bearers elected were: Secretary, Miss B. Davison; Treasurer, Mrs P. Darcy; Vice Presidents, Mesdames Trezise, F. Wallace; Assistant Secretaries, Mesdames J. Liddell and P. Grudzinskas; Publicity Officer, Mrs K. McLachlan; Auditor, Mr K. Cullen. It was decided to hold a cabaret at the Golf Club in October. This will take the form of a Parisian night with authentic decorations and a Can Can floor show.

The Auxiliary will sell Christmas cards again this year, following the encouraging response to last year’s effort when 7,000 cards were sold featuring a painting by Susan White. This year’s design is by a local artist, Dr A. Cumpston, and will be a scene of the Snake Cave at Mootwingee. The cards are expected to be even more popular than last year.

The next meeting of the Auxiliary will be held at the school on Tuesday, August 13.
