This year, the Sub-normal Children Women’s Auxiliary will assist the Silverlea School by selling Christmas cards. The cards are a reproduction of a Broken Hill scene painted by local artist, Susan White. Cards may be ordered by telephoning 4179 or 5321.

Christmas Cards for Silverlea

One of my weekend tasks – Christmas cards for overseas – became an unexpected joy when I discovered that one of the paintings of local artist Susan White has been used for cards to be sold in aid of the Silverlea School. The cards, 8 in. × 6 in., show a typical bit of outback country, with the red earth and tussocky grasses that Susan paints so well. It is a card that any recipient would be proud to frame.

Good stocks of the cards are available immediately, and orders may be lodged by ringing 4179 or 5321. The cost is 2/- per single card, or 18/- per dozen, including envelopes.

Funds for Silverlea

A unique fund-raising campaign by the Silverlea School Ladies Auxiliary is meeting with great success, a spokesman for the auxiliary said today.

The committee is selling Christmas cards with the front cover consisting of a colored reproduction of a painting of a Broken Hill district scene by well-known local artist Susan White. It is believed to be the first time a colored reproduction of a local painting has been used for this purpose. Four thousand cards have been sold this week and more have been ordered. The following is included in the card: “The sale of this card has helped the Silverlea School for the Broken Hill and district sub-normal children.”

This is the first time Silverlea has conducted such a project, but it is hoped to continue the scheme in the future.
