I loved painting the stark colours of the desert, with the variety of red earths, yellow grass, dark purple rocks and clear blue skies. This normally dry creek bed shows how raging torrents have eroded the land to form an artificial waterway and island. The degradation was caused by the removal of Mulga scrub for wood in the 1880s and used as stopes to prop up the underground mines.
