Artist's Statement:

Inspired by William Blake’s poem ‘The little black boy’, Head in the Clouds is the face of the mother who says “…and this sunburnt face / Is but a cloud, and like a shady grove”. This remarkable stone is black when polished and light grey when left scutched due the white grooves made by the scutch comb. Flecks of brown from terrigenous (earth) veins add texture.
