Artist's Statement: My younger brother William Alexander was born in February 1954 just after I started boarding school in Adelaide. I adored my little brother who is 12 years my junior. I did not like boarding school and pined for the holidays when I could go home to Broken Hill to paint and draw Bill and the outback landscape. Although I created numerous watercolours and drawings of him as he advanced from a toddler, this is the only portrait in oils that I made of him as a child.
