Artist's Statement:

Some things in focus some out of focus (painting of death of Aunty Dot or St Frances of Australia) yet unfinished 3.83. I do not want to finish the figures in detail only the wreath of gum blossom as I know exactly how gum leaves and blossom look

However my visual memory of my aunt is fading (and has never been in focus) but her spirit is as strong as ever I want to convey that the feeling of the person is stronger than physical appearanceS therefore I have made the drawing out of focus and unfinished hoping that the shape of the frame of the gum blossom will be seen as an egg which is how I began the painting:  Her spirit within the egg. [sketch of egg in rectangle]

Picture planes within picture planes i.e. not just the perpendicular picture plane [3-D sketch of 2 crossing planes]

We are conditioned to the p.p.p. by the rectangular piece of paper - books postcards photos, writing pads envelopes

We have simple devices to measure a straight line – the ruler – but not a curved or varied / meandering line areas are measured in squares – square metres

We write and print along a straight line horizontal in west vertical in the east
